VANTAM Prepares for the New Study Period
The Van Region Historical and Archaeological Research Center (VANTAM), an affiliate of the Faculty of Letters of our University since 1967, has accelerated its work within the scope of new term projects.
A large committee composed of Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, Secretary General Metin Küçük, Dean of the Faculty of Letters Prof. Dr. Hayati Develi, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Metin Ünver, Director of VANTAM Assoc. Prof. Gonca Dardeniz Arıkan, Acting Head of Construction and Technical Affairs Asst. Prof. Cemil Akçay, and an engineer at the Construction and Technical Affairs İlhan Korkut had examinations and negotiations during an intensive three-day work program in Van.
The committee that was welcomed by the rector of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Şevli discussed the sustainable joint studies and new period projects between the two universities and visited the campus of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University. The committee accompanied by Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak negotiated respectively with Van Deputy Governor Ömer Faruk Canpolar, İpekyolu District Governor Ali İhsan Aydın, Van Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Abdurrahman Şahin, and Van Museum Director Erol Uslu and shared information on VANTAM’s new vision and mission in the region.
During the negotiations, it was emphasized that multidisciplinary studies that will reflect the broad perspective of the Faculty of Letters and that will cover many scientific fields our university has such as archaeology, history, anthropology, museology, sociology, geography, linguistics, folklore and hydrologic sciences, botany etc. will be included in VANTAM’s new period vision; and it was highlighted that the focus will be on cooperation efforts and interdisciplinary projects that will reflect the intersection of social sciences and science.
